Mozambique Humanitarian Fund provides $2.3M in aid for 2025

The Mozambique Humanitarian Fund, managed by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), disbursed $2.3 million in 2025 to assist approximately 1.2 million people. The funding addressed challenges stemming from armed insecurity, extreme climate events, and disease outbreaks.

Resources supported multi-sectoral operations in the Macomia and Quissanga districts of Cabo Delgado, alongside rapid-response mechanisms for cyclones, floods, and cholera outbreaks. The report noted that humanitarian needs remained most critical in northern Mozambique, where insurgency-driven displacement and protection concerns persist.

A key feature of the 2025 operations was the localization of aid. Approximately 96% of the funds were channeled directly to national and local non-governmental organizations. UN Humanitarian Coordinator Catherine Sozi stated that “localization is not simply a policy aspiration, but an operational reality,” emphasizing the effectiveness of national organizations in reaching inaccessible areas.
