Mozambique launches forum to modernize government communication

At the opening of the first National Forum of Government Communicators in Maputo, Mozambique, Minister of State Administration and Civil Service Inocêncio Impissa called for a strategic shift in how the state communicates with its citizens. Representing Prime Minister Maria Benvinda Levi, Impissa emphasized that government communication must move beyond technical message transmission to become a tool for consolidating democracy and building public trust.

The forum, which brings together approximately 120 communication professionals from central and provincial state institutions, aims to harmonize communication strategies and align methodologies for disclosing government policies and programs. A key focus of the gathering is the need for a more proactive approach to combat disinformation and ‘fake news’ in an era defined by digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and the rapid spread of unverified information on social media platforms.

Impissa noted that the quality of governance depends not only on implementing public policies but also on the ability to explain them, account for results, and listen to the citizens. The forum’s theme, ‘Strategic Government Communication: Public Trust, Institutional Coordination, and Territorial Identity,’ highlights the importance of using credible and transparent information to strengthen national unity and institutional effectiveness.
