Mozambique literacy initiatives focus on childhood reading

In Mozambique, efforts are being made to promote literacy and reading habits among children. Writer Nelson Lineu has called for increased investment in children's literature, noting that reading fosters creativity, imagination, and self-knowledge. Lineu highlighted the difficulty children face in accessing books, observing that even when libraries exist, they are often underutilized by younger age groups. He urged educators and teacher training institutions to implement strategies that encourage a love for text beyond strictly didactic materials.

In a related initiative, Banco Comercial e de Investimentos (BCI) donated a collection of books to the Centro Infantário Mepanhira in Niassa province. The donation, part of the bank's 30th-anniversary social responsibility program, aims to support the educational development of children aged 0 to 7. BCI representatives stated that the initiative is intended to improve access to knowledge and support the formation of future generations as a pillar for sustainable development in Mozambique.
