Mozambique Ministry of Education announces teacher career and salary regularizations
Mozambique’s Ministry of Education and Culture has announced plans to regularize administrative acts for over 82,950 teachers. Minister Edson Macuácua stated that the initiative aims to unlock career progressions for educators in salary levels 1 through 11, addressing administrative delays dating back to 2021.
In a first phase, 5,920 employees are awaiting formal approval from the Ministry of State Administration and Public Function to effectuate salary corrections. The government intends to form technical teams to map all professionals eligible for promotion.
Additionally, the Ministry has committed to resuming payments for 2023 overtime owed to approximately 29,466 teachers. The debt is expected to be settled in three installments, subject to state financial availability. Of those affected, 24,933 have received partial payments, while 4,533 have received none. The government is also working with the Ministry of Finance to validate overtime debts accumulated between 2024 and 2026.
