Mozambique opens VIII National Session of the Children's Parliament

The Government of Mozambique has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing child welfare by integrating children's voices into public policy. This stance was highlighted during the opening of the VIII National Session of the Children's Parliament in Maputo.

The session brings together 114 elected child delegates representing all provinces of the country, including 64 girls and 50 boys. These representatives participate in debates to present concerns, experiences, and proposals gathered from their local communities and schools.

Key issues slated for discussion include child violence, premature unions, child labor, malnutrition, and challenges regarding access to education and healthcare. Additionally, participants will address the impacts of climate change and risks associated with the digital environment. The initiative is supported by the Assembly of the Republic in partnership with civil society and United Nations agencies to strengthen children's rights and social well-being.
