Mozambique Police launch investigation into food theft scandal
The General Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) has established a joint investigative team to probe allegations that institutional meals intended for law enforcement officers were being diverted and sold clandestinely.
Following reports that state-funded meals were being sold to civilians in Maputo for between 30 and 70 meticais, the PRM acknowledged the validity of the allegations. The investigation will be conducted by a team comprising members from the PRM General Command's Information and Inspection Directorates.
The initiative aims to identify those responsible for the scheme and hold them accountable. The PRM has called for public cooperation in reporting acts that undermine public assets and the institution's reputation.
