Mozambique and Portugal leaders call for social justice and institutional integrity

In Mozambique, leaders and religious groups marked the 34th anniversary of the General Peace Agreement with calls for moral renewal and social justice. President Daniel Chapo urged religious confessions to play an active role in restoring ethical values to strengthen social coexistence and peace. Similarly, the Sant’Egídio Community emphasized a peace based on dialogue and the rejection of violence.

Opposition leader Ossufo Momade of RENAMO argued that true stability requires more than just the silencing of weapons; it must be built on social justice, inclusion, and respect for fundamental rights. He specifically called for transparency regarding the costs of foreign forces in Cabo Delgado.

In Portugal, President António José Seguro addressed the nation on the anniversary of the Republic's implementation. He called for a new political culture of inter-party commitment and warned against the erosion of public trust caused by administrative delays and judicial inefficiency. He urged those in public office to act with responsibility to maintain the prestige of state institutions.
