Mozambique President calls for improved military readiness and logistics

Mozambican President Daniel Chapo has called for improved conditions and better preparation for the Mozambique Armed Defence Forces (FADM) to address ongoing security threats. Speaking during celebrations in Inhambane province marking the anniversaries of the National Liberation Struggle and FADM Day, Chapo emphasized the need for military discipline and adequate resources to protect national sovereignty.

The President highlighted critical structural challenges facing the military, including shortages of equipment, logistical gaps, and insufficient military infrastructure. He stressed that soldiers are the nation’s ‘most precious asset’ and urged commanders to ensure no mission is conducted without sufficient information or preparation to avoid unnecessary risk.

Chapo addressed the persistent insurgency in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, noting that while large-scale occupations of towns have been curtailed, terrorism remains a threat through smaller, decentralized actions. He acknowledged the contributions of local forces alongside friendly forces from Rwanda and Tanzania in stabilizing the region. The President noted that the resumption of major gas projects in the Rovuma Basin indicates growing confidence in the security situation, despite the continued need to combat terrorism, organized crime, and maritime threats.
