Mozambique President reserves 10% of agricultural projects for veterans

Mozambican President Daniel Chapo has announced two major initiatives aimed at supporting veterans of the national liberation struggle. During Victory Day celebrations in Maputo, Chapo declared that 10% of all agricultural sector projects in the country will be reserved for these veterans to encourage their participation in national economic development and wealth creation.

Additionally, the President announced that the government will move to finalize the pension fixation process for combatants, a procedure that has reportedly been ongoing for over 40 years. Chapo noted concerns regarding the continuous increase in the number of registered combatants and stated that the government aims to provide concrete actions rather than just rhetoric.

In his report on the first 18 months of his mandate, Chapo highlighted that the administration has distributed approximately 3,500 combatant identification cards, provided medical assistance to 15,000 beneficiaries, and granted funeral subsidies to over 1,000 families. The government has also provided 426 scholarships to descendants of liberation fighters.
