Mozambique recognized for leadership in women's economic inclusion
Mozambique has received international recognition for its efforts in promoting gender equality and the economic inclusion of women. During the 2nd Egumeni Dialogue in Addis Ababa, the country was acknowledged as the first to join the Women and Youth Financial and Economic Inclusion (WYFEI) initiative. Minister of Labour, Gender, and Social Action Ivete Alane highlighted national instruments such as the Women's Empowerment Fund and the National Network of Women for Financial and Economic Inclusion to expand access to markets and employment.
Additionally, the Government of Mozambique was awarded the 2026 IFAD Gender Award by the International Fund for Agricultural Development. This distinction, presented in Rome, recognizes the Inclusive Development of Agri-food Value Chains Program (PROCAVA) for its success in empowering rural women. The program has reached approximately 167,000 households, with women accounting for 55 percent of participants.
