Mozambique reviews labor laws to protect digital platform workers

The Mozambican government is discussing a targeted revision of the Labor Law to address the challenges posed by the digital economy. A strategic meeting held at the National Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (INTIC) brought together officials from INTIC and the Ministry of Labour, Gender and Social Action to focus on social protection for platform workers, such as delivery drivers and ride-hailing motorists.

Key objectives of the legislative review include establishing clear legal links between service providers and digital platforms, identifying the entities responsible for these operations, and ensuring greater transparency in the algorithms used to distribute tasks and income. Discussions also emphasized the need for secure and transparent digital environments and the creation of multidisciplinary tools for labor inspection and conflict mediation.

Representatives highlighted that aligning labor legislation with technological evolution is urgent. Furthermore, the legal adaptation aims to safeguard vulnerable groups, including women and children, within the digital ecosystem.
