Mozambique seeks to link scientific research with mining sector

The Mozambican government aims to strengthen the connection between scientific research and mining activities to improve the prospecting, processing, certification, and marketing of gemstones and precious metals. This initiative was announced by the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Estêvão Pale, during the opening of the gemstone and precious metals exhibition at the eighth Nampula Annual Gemstone Fair (FAGENA 2026).

The event is integrated with the first Conference on Adding Value to Available Mineral and Energy Resources (CAVAME-d). Scientific sessions will address geology, geophysics, artisanal and small-scale mining, and the role of geoscientific research in land-use planning and decision-making. The program also covers environmental sustainability, mining licensing, and the Kimberley Process, focusing on legal procedures for the export and marketing of mineral products.

Minister Pale emphasized that integrating FAGENA with CAVAME-d supports the national industrialization strategy by promoting the local processing of mineral raw materials.
