Mozambique signs agreements to boost local industry and resource value

Mozambique is implementing strategic initiatives to increase domestic value addition for its mineral and energy resources. During the CAVAME-d conference in Nacala, the government and 12 national and foreign companies signed memorandums of understanding for projects valued at 4.2 billion dollars. These projects aim to establish local transformation industries for mineral and petroleum resources, moving away from the export of raw materials to promote industrialization and economic diversification.

To support this transition, the Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) and Banco Comercial e de Investimentos (BCI) signed a memorandum of understanding in Maputo to create a credit line for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). This credit line is designed to help Mozambican businesses overcome financing barriers, allowing them to provide goods and services to the hydrocarbon sector, generate employment, and ensure more wealth remains within the country.
