Mozambique Starts Third African Union Peer Review of Economic Governance

President Daniel Francisco Chapo received a delegation of the African Union’s African Peer Review Mechanism (MARP) led by Moeketsi Majoro, marking the launch of the third national review. The assessment will examine Mozambique’s performance in democratic governance, economic management and sustainable development, measuring compliance with commitments made to the African Union and progress achieved since earlier reviews.

Majoro said the mission was “at the invitation of the President, who wants us to help evaluate whether Mozambique is still on the right path for economic development and stabilization.” The review process is expected to run through the end of the year, with a final report due in 2027, and aims to strengthen mechanisms for evaluating public policies.

The peer review follows two previous assessments and reflects Mozambique’s effort to align its policies with continental standards and to monitor its development trajectory.
