Mozambique tax authority reports 84% revenue growth in megaprojects

The Mozambique Tax Authority (AT) reported an 84% increase in revenue from megaprojects during the first nine months of 2026. Total revenue from these projects reached 14,054.12 million meticais, driven largely by the oil and gas sector, which contributed 11,486.35 million meticais. The mining sector accounted for 2,567.77 million meticais.

Audits and inspection activities conducted by the AT resulted in the identification of approximately 10,213,325,769.22 meticais in disputed amounts. These enforcement actions were supported by consultants from the Efficient Taxation for Inclusive Development (TEDI) project and the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF).

In addition to audits, the AT conducted monitoring visits to 30 projects across the provinces of Cabo Delgado, Niassa, Nampula, and Manica. The authority also oversaw three international ruby auctions between January and July 2026, which generated 83.73 million USD in total revenue and 8.07 million USD in Mining Production Tax (IPM).
