Mozambique Tax Authority sets 427.7 billion metical revenue target for 2027
The Mozambique Tax Authority (AT) has established a target to collect 427.7 billion meticais in net tax revenue, after VAT refunds, by 2027. During a recent leadership meeting in Inhambane, AT President Aníbal Mbalango called for concrete measures to strengthen tax collection and reduce the fiscal gap.
Key priorities for achieving this goal include enhancing audits and inspections, advancing digital transformation, expanding the tax base, and encouraging voluntary compliance. Mbalango emphasized that oversight should focus on high-risk sectors with significant revenue impact, such as mining, large taxpayers, international trade, natural resources, and the digital economy.
To support these objectives, the institution aims to modernize information systems to simplify procedures and improve control mechanisms. Mbalango also stressed the importance of staff training, technical capacity building, and maintaining integrity and transparency within the authority.
