Mozambique to audit gas project costs in Rovuma Basin
Mozambique’s National Petroleum Institute (INP) has announced an audit of recoverable costs for major natural gas projects in the Rovuma Basin. The initiative aims to verify the eligibility of expenses declared by concessionaires in Area 1 and Area 4 before revenues are shared with the state.
The audit for Area 1 will cover the 2025 and 2026 fiscal years, while the audit for Area 4 will encompass the period from 2024 to 2026. Beyond documentary and financial reviews, the process will include physical inspections of equipment and activities. This oversight is critical because the amount of recognized recoverable costs directly impacts the share of profits that revert to public coffers.
Area 1 hosts the Mozambique LNG project led by TotalEnergies, and Area 4 includes developments such as the Coral Sul FLNG facility. To facilitate this, the INP has launched a public tender valued at approximately 37.96 million meticais to hire specialized consultancy services.
