Mozambique to host 12th AUSC Region 5 Youth Games
The 12th edition of the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games will be held in the cities of Maputo and Matola from December 3 to 14. The official launch of the biennial multi-sport competition was conducted by Prime Minister Maria Benvinda Levi, representing President Daniel Francisco Chapo.
The event will host delegations from ten countries within the region: Mozambique, South Africa, Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The competition is designed for athletes aged 20 and older.
During the launch, Prime Minister Levi emphasized the role of sports in youth development, noting its ability to promote discipline, responsibility, and teamwork. She described the games as a tool for social inclusion and regional integration, calling on the private sector and local communities to support the athletes, whom she characterized as ambassadors for their respective nations.
