Mozambique to import 800 bulls to modernize livestock sector

The Mozambican government has announced the importation of 800 bulls to improve the genetic quality of the nation's cattle herd. The announcement was made by the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries during the 60th/61st edition of the Mozambique Agro-Commercial and Industrial Fair (FACIM).

The initiative aims to promote early growth and high productivity in livestock, ultimately increasing local meat quality. By strengthening the sector, the government intends to reduce dependence on food imports and bolster national food sovereignty. To support this transition, the government pledged to facilitate technology transfers and the implementation of best management practices among local producers.

The livestock sector is currently undergoing a paradigm shift, moving from traditional cattle accumulation toward market-oriented production. Given the current deficit between domestic supply and consumption needs, officials have called on private investors to explore the growing market opportunities within the cattle and poultry sectors.
