Mozambique U-23 football team misses Olympic qualification due to funding shortage
The Mozambique U-23 national football team will be unable to participate in the qualification campaign for the 2027 African U-23 Championship in Egypt. This absence automatically disqualifies the country from competing for a spot in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Jorge Bambo, Vice-President of the Mozambique Football Federation (FMF) for Administration and Finance, stated that the organization attempted to secure alternative funding but was unsuccessful. He noted that the federation is currently struggling with a lack of sponsors and internal support, relying primarily on assistance from FIFA and CAF. The federation faces increasing expenses due to the management of multiple national teams and various activities.
