Mozambique-Zimbabwe pipeline expansion to boost regional energy capacity

The Companhia do Pipeline Moçambique-Zimbabwe (CPMZ) is launching an expansion of the Beira-Feruka fuel pipeline to bolster energy security across Southern Africa. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for September 2, 2026, in Nhamatanda to begin construction on two new pumping stations located in Nhamatanda, Sofala Province, and Messica, Manica Province.

The project is expected to increase the 294-kilometer pipeline's annual transport capacity by 67%, rising from 3 million to 5 million cubic meters by the end of 2027. This expansion aims to meet the growing regional demand for diesel, gasoline, and aviation fuel. The development will be synchronized with upgrades to the Petrozim Line between Feruka and Harare, creating a high-capacity energy corridor from the Port of Beira to the Southern African interior.

In addition to serving Mozambique and Zimbabwe, the corridor provides critical supply routes for landlocked nations, including Zambia, Malawi, Botswana, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Long-term plans include feasibility studies for a larger-diameter pipeline to meet demand through 2050 and potential extensions toward Zambia's Copperbelt region.
