Mozart’s Figaro opera staged at Mosteiro da Cartuxa
A production of Mozart’s ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ was staged at the Mosteiro da Cartuxa in Caxias. Directed by Mónica Garnel and assisted by Anna Leppänen, the production utilized a burlesque and incongruous aesthetic, moving away from traditional 18th-century iconography in favor of elements inspired by music videos and television.
The set design featured vibrant colors and unconventional props, including pink flamingos, giant floats, and inflatable pools. While the production aimed for a comedic and farcical tone, critics noted that the approach occasionally felt unidimensional despite its extravagant visual elements.
