Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro returns to Teatro Costanzi

The production of Mozart’s ‘Le nozze di Figaro’ has returned to the Teatro Costanzi, featuring a contemporary staging by Claus Guth. Originally created in Salzburg in 2006, this version utilizes an almost Ibsen-like setting characterized by a palette of white, black, and gray, along with cold lighting.

The production transforms the traditional palace into an interior, psychological space, using a large staircase to symbolize both connection and separation. The staging aims to reflect the complex themes of the opera, where social hierarchies are subverted and characters grapple with desire and identity through Mozart’s music and Da Ponte’s libretto.
