Mozilla adds built-in ad blocker to Firefox for iOS

Mozilla has launched a built-in ad blocker for the Firefox browser on iOS, targeting iPhone and iPad users. The feature utilizes Apple’s WebKit Content Blocker technology combined with the community-maintained EasyList filter to identify and strip out third-party ads, pop-ups, and trackers before they load.

Because iOS handles browser extensions differently than desktop or Android platforms, Mozilla integrated the tool directly into the app to provide functionality that was previously unavailable without third-party software. The ad blocker is designed to work alongside Firefox’s existing Enhanced Tracking Protection.

The feature is turned off by default to allow users to choose their browsing experience. Users can enable it via Settings > Browsing > Ad Blocker. Mozilla noted that the tool will not block all advertisements; ads served directly by a website, ads appearing in search engine results, and Firefox’s own sponsored shortcuts will remain visible.
