Mozilla brings built-in ad blocker to Firefox for iPhone

Mozilla has launched a built-in ad-blocking feature for the Firefox browser on iPhone and iPad. This update brings the iOS experience in line with the functionality already available on desktop and Android versions.

The tool is designed to reduce intrusive elements such as pop-ups, banners, and overlays that can disrupt the mobile browsing experience. Because Apple requires all iOS browsers to use the WebKit rendering engine, Mozilla developed the feature using WebKit’s content-blocking tools combined with specific lists to identify advertising and tracking elements.

The feature is currently disabled by default. Users must manually activate it by navigating to the Firefox settings menu, selecting the Browsing section, and enabling the Ad Blocker option. The update is available for devices running iOS 15 or later and iPadOS 15 or later. Mozilla noted that the rollout is being conducted gradually, so the option may not appear for all users simultaneously.
