Mozilla introduces integrated ad blocker for Firefox on iOS
Mozilla has begun the phased rollout of an integrated, optional ad blocker for the Firefox browser on iOS devices. The feature is designed to block third-party advertising networks, trackers, pop-ups, and overlays by filtering content before web pages are fully loaded.
The tool utilizes the community-maintained EasyList database to identify and prevent the execution of advertising scripts and tracking resources. This pre-loading filtration aims to improve page clarity, potentially reduce data consumption, and accelerate page load speeds.
However, the functionality has specific limitations. It does not block advertisements appearing within search engine results, such as those from Google or Bing, nor does it block content explicitly marked as sponsored on the Firefox start page or New Tab page. Mozilla noted that because some websites integrate ads in ways not covered by current filter lists, the tool may not capture every advertisement.
