Mozilla launches Firefox Enterprise with self-hosted management

Mozilla has launched Firefox Enterprise, a new browser solution specifically designed for private and government organizations. Unlike cloud-managed competitors, this version features a self-hosted management console that allows IT teams to deploy and control the browser within their own on-premises infrastructure.

Key features include centralized policy control, identity-based access via SSO, and native Data Loss Prevention (DLP) to block or warn against sensitive data actions. The platform also provides administrators with the ability to govern browser telemetry, manage extensions, and restrict or enable AI tools. By utilizing Mozilla’s independent Gecko engine, the product aims to provide an alternative to Chromium-based browsers, reducing vendor lock-in and shared failure risks.

The rollout is focused on Europe, with initial distribution targeting Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and France. Mozilla also indicated that a similar enterprise version for the Thunderbird communication tool is currently in development.
