Mozilla updates Firefox with stability fixes and Project Nova redesign
Mozilla is rolling out significant updates to its Firefox web browser, including a maintenance release and a major visual overhaul.
Version 156.0.1 serves as a maintenance update designed to resolve stability and rendering issues. Key fixes include addressing errors related to the CSS Anchor Positioning specification, which previously caused the browser to freeze on certain websites. The update also corrects display errors regarding nested hyperlinks and improves accessibility support for screen readers in the address bar.
Separately, Mozilla is introducing ‘Project Nova’ starting with version 157, scheduled for rollout on September 29, 2026. This mandatory redesign focuses on a cleaner user interface, featuring rounded tabs, a more streamlined toolbar, and improved use of screen space. While the visual aesthetics—including new themes, wallpapers, and widgets—will change significantly, the core functionality, menus, and keyboard shortcuts will remain the same.
