MP Gazir Nazrul Islam's first wife granted bail after settlement

Makshuda Islam, the first wife of Satkhira-4 Member of Parliament Gazir Nazrul Islam, has been granted bail by a Dhaka court. The bail follows a compromise agreement between the complainant, S.M. Masum Billah, and the defendants.

Billah, the father of the deceased Mariam Khatun, informed the court that he has no objection to the release of either Nazrul or Makshuda Islam. The compromise was reached after the family concluded that the death was not caused by provocation or specific actions by the accused. However, the court denied the bail application for Gazir Nazrul Islam, who remains in custody.

The case stems from the death of Mariam Khatun, Nazrul's second wife, who was found dead in her residence in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on September 20. Police investigations revealed that Mariam had been subjected to physical and mental abuse and reported that she was sometimes forced to sleep on a balcony rather than in the bedroom. A suicide note was recovered at the scene.
