MP Nana Ayew Afriye sues Rev. Owusu Bempah for defamation

Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, the Member of Parliament for Effiduase/Asokore representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has filed a GH¢10 million defamation lawsuit against Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah. The legal action follows remarks made by the founder of Glorious Word Power Ministry on September 6, 2026, in which he accused Afriye and several others of planning an attack against his church and congregation.

In his writ of summons, Afriye argues that the pastor’s allegations were deliberately crafted to damage his integrity, reputation, and standing in society. In addition to the GH¢10 million in damages, the MP is seeking a court declaration that the statements were defamatory, a permanent injunction against future similar remarks, and a public retraction and apology to be broadcast on the same platforms where the original claims were made.
