MPBL game‑fixing scandal leads to lifetime bans and investigations

Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) officials are investigating a suspected game‑fixing incident involving the Bacolod MassKara team. Coach Yeng Guiao said game‑fixing is unacceptable and urged the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) and MPBL to follow due process, adding that existing laws already treat such manipulation as fraud and that specific legislation could be considered.

MPBL founder Manny Pacquiao condemned the alleged manipulation, emphasizing that integrity is a core value of the league. After the league’s inquiry, lifetime bans were imposed on several Bacolod MassKara players and coaching staff. Pacquiao also noted that a dedicated monitoring group continuously reviews games to detect any suspicious activity.
