MPF Council to analyze messages regarding Prosecutor General Paulo Gonet
The Superior Council of the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) has scheduled a meeting for September 25 to analyze an internal procedure regarding mentions of Prosecutor General Paulo Gonet in messages sent by businessman Daniel Vorcaro, owner of the former Banco Master.
The investigation follows a request from Novo party deputies seeking Gonet's removal from investigations involving Banco Master. The council will evaluate whether the references found in Federal Police reports compromise Gonet's impartiality. This is not a disciplinary process and does not involve potential punishments.
In a defense submitted to the Council, Gonet denied any personal relationship or friendship with Vorcaro, stating he has no personal interest in cases where the businessman is a party or under investigation. Gonet also testified at the Supreme Federal Court (STF) that he met Vorcaro only once during a brief encounter at a legal panel in London, noting he was unaware of the event's sponsors beforehand.
The mentions surfaced during 'Operação Compliance Zero,' which investigates corruption and financial fraud. Investigators identified messages from Vorcaro to STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes and lawyer Ciro Soares where Vorcaro stated, “We cannot reverse this with Paulo and Andrei,” which police delegates identified as referring to Gonet and Federal Police Director-General Andrei Rodrigues.
