MPF seeks increased fines over BR-364 highway maintenance in Acre
The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) has requested that the Federal Court increase daily fines against the Union and the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (Dnit) from R$ 10,000 to R$ 20,000 regarding the maintenance of the BR-364 highway in Acre.
The request, made by prosecutor Lucas Costa Almeida Dias, also seeks personal daily fines of R$ 5,000 for the Minister of Transport, the Director-General of Dnit, and the regional superintendent in Acre. The legal action stems from a June 2023 judicial decision requiring improvements to the highway between Rio Branco and Cruzeiro do Sul, which the MPF claims has not been fully fulfilled.
Key outstanding requirements include the definitive recovery of the stretch between Sena Madureira and Tarauacá, the reactivation of weigh stations, and permanent inspection of overweight vehicles. Additionally, repairs to the bridge over the Tarauacá River remain unresolved following a work stoppage in 2025 due to execution flaws. The MPF noted that Dnit has failed to provide a detailed schedule, resources, or specific work fronts to meet the court-ordered deadlines.
