MPF sues Inep to guarantee Libras accessibility in 2026 exams

The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) has filed a civil public action seeking to ensure full accessibility for deaf and hard-of-hearing candidates in the 2026 National Teacher Exam (PND). The legal action requests that the National Institute for Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep) provide either video exams in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) or full-time interpreters to translate all exam content, rather than just general instructions.

The MPF argues that current regulations, which limit interpreters to specific terms and general rules, effectively force deaf candidates to take the exam in a second language, as written Portuguese is not their primary language. Inep previously rejected requests for expanded accessibility, citing technical and budgetary constraints.

Separately, Inep has released the final results regarding appeals for specialized assistance for the 2026 National Student Performance Exam (Enade). This assistance is intended for candidates requiring specific accommodations, including people with disabilities, pregnant women, and the elderly, to ensure equal testing conditions.
