MPK Łódź plans own tram prototype and museum expansion

MPK Łódź is expanding its technical capabilities through new infrastructure and manufacturing ambitions. The company’s new Technical Plant in Helenówko, valued at 123 million PLN, is designed to repair and modernize rolling stock while also securing external contracts. In a significant international move, MPK Łódź has partnered with Enika to modernize 123 Skoda trams for Prague, a project expected to span five years.

Looking toward long-term development, MPK Łódź aims to produce its own tram prototype by 2028. The company plans to participate directly in the vehicle's design process, focusing on a cost-effective, 100% low-floor, single-direction model.

Additionally, the company is set to take over the historic Brus depot in October. This site will serve as a historical transport hub, combining the Municipal Communication Museum with the Brus Museum Depot. Initial plans involve renovating two buildings to create a dedicated space for the history of urban transport in Łódź.
