MPLA Central Committee rejects Higino Carneiro leadership bid
The Central Committee of the MPLA, Angola's ruling party, has upheld the decision to declare Higino Carneiro's candidacy for party leadership null and void. Following a hierarchical appeal by Carneiro, the committee maintained its stance based on party statutes and regulations.
The decision follows allegations of “grave irregularities” regarding Carneiro's candidacy, including the use of allegedly falsified signatures and the improper use of identification documents. In addition to rejecting the bid, the Central Committee has decided to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Carneiro, citing a “voluntary and conscious violation of ethical and moral duties” required by the party's code of ethics.
Furthermore, the party announced it will report the facts to the Attorney General's Office due to strong indications of document forgery involving Carneiro. These developments occur as the party prepares for its IX ordinary congress, scheduled for December 9 and 10.
