MPMX launches coral reef transplantation in Labuan Bajo
PT Mitra Pinasthika Mustika Tbk (MPMX) has launched a coral reef transplantation program in Pasir Putih Village on Messah Island, located in the West Manggarai Regency of East Nusa Tenggara. This initiative is part of the MPM Green Action 2026 sustainability program, which focuses on environmental preservation and community empowerment.
The project aims to transplant 500 coral seedlings using 32 spider frame units as transplantation media. The location was selected in coordination with the Komodo National Park authorities, as Messah Island serves as a buffer zone for the national park and requires ecosystem support.
In addition to the physical transplantation, MPMX has implemented community-based approaches, including education for local fishermen and technical training for the Pasir Putih Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis). Training covers coral nursery management, fragment selection, media installation, and growth monitoring to ensure the long-term recovery of the marine ecosystem.
