MPRJ alerts victims of Elgui Store mobile phone scams in Volta Redonda

The Public Prosecutor's Office of the State of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ) has issued an alert to consumers in Volta Redonda who may have fallen victim to scams involving Elgui Store, particularly between 2020 and 2022. The business owner, Luiz Guilherme Silva Gonçalves, is currently imprisoned and facing criminal charges for fraud.

Investigations suggest the establishment operated by receiving advance payments for mobile phones that were never delivered to customers. To sustain criminal accusations, the MPRJ emphasizes that victims must provide concrete evidence of their individual losses. A police report alone may be insufficient for prosecution.

Authorities are urging affected individuals to present documentation such as Pix or bank transfer receipts, purchase orders, invoices, emails, and WhatsApp conversations to the 93rd Civil Police station. The alert follows instances where investigations were archived because victims could not be located or failed to provide sufficient proof of the transactions.
