Mpumalanga residents urged to conserve water as dam levels decline

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) has urged residents in Mpumalanga to practice water conservation following a marginal decline in provincial dam levels. According to the latest Weekly State of Reservoirs Report, the province’s average dam levels decreased from 98.7% to 98.5%.

Both major Water Management Areas in the province reported slight decreases: the Limpopo-Olifants area fell from 100.3% to 100.1%, and the Inkomati-Usuthu area dropped from 98.2% to 98.0%. Declines were also noted across the Ehlanzeni, Gert Sibande, and Nkangala districts.

While many dams showed mixed results or remained stable, specific declines were recorded in several locations, including the Ohrigstad, Vygeboom, and Westoe dams. Despite the downward trend, the department noted that overall water levels remain high.
