MQM-P calls for national dialogue on creating new provinces

Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Chairman Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has called for a national dialogue to establish a framework for creating new provinces in Pakistan. Speaking at a press conference in Karachi alongside leaders Dr. Farooq Sattar and Mustafa Kamal, Siddiqui argued that the country’s current administrative structure no longer aligns with demographic realities or governance requirements due to rapid population growth.

Siddiqui emphasized that the demand for new administrative units is a national necessity rather than a partisan or organizational interest. He noted that while successive governments have created new districts, they have avoided the broader debate on provincial reorganization. He specifically highlighted that the case for additional provinces is strongest in Sindh.

The proposal follows recent comments from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who suggested that Pakistan’s governance structure requires restructuring to address growing administrative challenges. Siddiqui urged political parties to set aside personal interests to reach a consensus on these reforms, noting that support for the idea is growing across the political spectrum.
