MQM-P calls for new provinces based on population

Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) has renewed its demand for the creation of new provinces across the country, arguing that provinces should serve as administrative units based on population distribution rather than linguistic identities.

Party Chairman Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui stated that the case for a separate administrative unit in urban Sindh is the most justified due to the region's significant economic contribution and ongoing deprivation. He suggested that a transparent census and corrected voter lists would likely compel the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to support the demand.

Siddiqui noted that Karachi’s population is estimated to exceed 20 million and emphasized the need for an accurate census to ensure proper governance. Senior leader Dr. Farooq Sattar added that the current provincial structures are effectively controlled by a few families and have failed to devolve power to the grassroots level despite the 18th Amendment.
