Mr 2Kay claims record label withheld compensation from 2017 assault
Nigerian singer Abiye Jumbo, known as Mr 2Kay, has revealed that his former record label withheld the majority of compensation he received following a 2017 assault. Speaking in a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, Mr 2Kay stated that while Eko Hotel and Suites provided ₦10 million in compensation after he was robbed and beaten at the facility, his record label only gave him ₦2 million. He cited this financial handling as the reason for leaving the label.
The 2017 incident occurred after Mr 2Kay performed at the Buckwyld ‘n’ Breathless concert. He was reportedly attacked in his hotel room by men posing as room service staff. Following an investigation by the Lagos State Police Command, suspects including Burna Boy’s road manager were arrested and confessed to being hired by Burna Boy to “teach Mr 2Kay a lesson.”
Although Burna Boy was arraigned in court on charges of conspiracy and accessory to armed robbery, Mr 2Kay eventually withdrew the case after receiving an apology. The two artists appeared to reconcile in 2021. Mr 2Kay noted that he has since transitioned into a career as a music executive.
