MR. DIY to open first Hungarian store in Budapest

Malaysian discount retailer MR. DIY is expanding into the Hungarian market, with plans to open its first store at the KÖKI Terminal shopping centre in Budapest. While an exact opening date has not been announced, the company has already begun recruiting staff for the new location.

Founded in Kuala Lumpur in 2005, MR. DIY has grown into one of Asia’s largest retailers of home improvement and household goods, operating between 5,700 and 6,000 stores globally. The company has been aggressively expanding across Europe, having already established a presence in Turkey, Spain, Poland, Romania, and the Czech Republic.

The retailer operates on an “Always Low Prices” model, typically offering between 15,000 and 17,000 products per store. Its inventory includes tools, household items, home decoration, electrical accessories, stationery, toys, and sporting goods. The company’s strategy involves targeting shopping centres and retail parks, with plans to reach both major cities and smaller settlements in the future.
