Mr Macaroni explains decision to avoid politics and reduce criticism
Nigerian comedian and social commentator Adebowale Adedayo, known as Mr Macaroni, has shared his reasons for avoiding politics and scaling back his criticism of the government. He expressed concern that the Nigerian political environment can corrupt even highly respected individuals, leading them to ruin their established legacies.
Mr Macaroni also addressed his decision to reduce public commentary on government issues, citing fatigue from repeating the same messages and facing backlash from citizens. He noted that people who advocate for the public often find themselves targeted by the very citizens they aim to represent. He stated that he has faced persecution, vilification, and threats, including those related to the EndSARS protests.
He indicated that he is currently taking a break to focus on his art, suggesting he will return to active commentary only when he feels the Nigerian public is ready to move beyond a ‘survival mentality’ and demand an enabling environment for success.
