Ümraniye hosts workshop to address student absenteeism

Stakeholders gathered in Ümraniye for the “Student Absenteeism Causes and Solutions Workshop” to develop preventive measures against rising absenteeism rates. Hosted by the Ümraniye District Governorate, the workshop focused on establishing early intervention mechanisms and strengthening cooperation between public, private, and local institutions.

The discussions addressed the multidimensional causes of absenteeism, categorized into several key areas. Social, economic, and familial factors—such as poverty, child labor, domestic violence, and broken family structures—were analyzed alongside the role of social services. Local leaders, including representatives from the Muhtars Association, emphasized the importance of identifying at-risk families at the neighborhood level to accelerate reporting to official institutions.

Additionally, the workshop examined psychological and academic drivers, including peer bullying, fear of school, academic anxiety, and addiction tendencies. Participants from guidance research centers and educational institutions discussed how school climate and curriculum density impact attendance, aiming to create a multidisciplinary responsibility framework that spans education, social services, and local security.
