Ümraniye selected for child crime prevention pilot project

The Istanbul Governorship and Istanbul University have launched a collaborative project aimed at protecting children from falling into criminal networks through an ‘Early Intervention and Restorative Justice Model’. The Ümraniye district has been selected as the pilot area for this initiative.

A preliminary briefing meeting was held at the Ümraniye District Governor's Office, attended by representatives from the Ümraniye Municipality, Police Department, National Education Directorate, and various social service and religious institutions. The project focuses on identifying risk factors such as a child's social environment and educational status to prevent crime before it occurs, rather than relying on traditional reactive methods.

A key component of the project is the development of an artificial intelligence-supported decision support system by the Istanbul University Technology Transfer Office (Istanbul TTO). This system is intended to assist in detecting risks and providing holistic evaluations to prevent children from being driven into crime or recidivism.
