MrBeast unveils $10M village in Ghana to combat child labor
American YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, has unveiled Abna Dakwa Village in Ghana’s Eastern Region, a nearly $10 million community project designed to combat child labor in the cocoa industry.
The development, completed after eight months of construction, serves approximately 1,062 residents. The project focuses on five key areas: education, clean water, healthcare, food security, and economic opportunity. Infrastructure includes a school for over 300 pupils, a medical clinic, a marketplace, solar-powered electricity, and water towers with pumping systems. To support long-term food security, the village features agricultural plots, fish tanks, and a chicken coop.
The initiative was organized through the ‘1 Billion Acts of Kindness’ campaign, a partnership involving Beast Industries, the 1 Billion Followers Summit, the Varkey Foundation, and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives. To address economic pressures that drive child labor, the Rockefeller Foundation is backing a program to provide free daily meals to all enrolled students for the next five years. The project aims to reduce the high rates of child labor and school absenteeism common during cocoa harvest seasons in the region.
