MRC des Etchemins approves infrastructure and economic initiatives
The MRC des Etchemins council has approved several initiatives focused on infrastructure, youth, and economic development. A primary financial commitment involves the regional septic sludge treatment center, with a total planned expenditure of $1,724,969 to increase capacity. This includes $1.4 million in borrowed funds and $324,969 from accumulated surpluses. The council also intends to establish a permanent financial reserve for the center, funded by operational surpluses, to cover future expansions or maintenance.
To increase youth involvement, the council is seeking up to $50,000 in financial aid to consult residents aged 12 to 35 and develop an initial youth action plan.
On the economic front, mayors approved a 2026-2030 agreement to structure the circular economy across the Chaudière-Appalaches region. This initiative, involving government bodies and ten MRCs, will invest over $500,000 to scale up expertise in resource transformation, helping businesses convert unused materials into resources for others.
