Mérida advances Municipal Integral Care System development

The Mérida City Council, led by Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada, is advancing the creation of the Municipal Integral Care System. To establish the framework, the administration organized working sessions titled ‘Aliadas para un Sistema de Cuidados’ (Allies for a Care System).

More than 40 representatives from public institutions, academia, the private sector, civil society, and international organizations participated in developing the Conceptual Framework of Care. This document aims to create a shared understanding of care as a right and serve as the foundation for the future municipal system.

Flora Zapata Mendiola, General Coordinator of Social Justice and Human Development, stated that implementing care public policy means placing people at the center and recognizing that care sustains the daily lives of families, communities, and the city. The initiative includes collaboration with the German Technical Cooperation (GIZ) in Mexico and the Coalition for the Right to Dignified Care and Women's Own Time.
