Mérida police detain suspects after shooting of alleged criminal leader

Authorities in Yucatán have detained several suspects following an attempted assassination in the Montes de Amé neighborhood of Mérida. The victim has been identified as José Marcelino “N”, known as “El Marce”, a figure previously designated as a priority target by the Quintana Roo Prosecutor's Office due to alleged links to organized crime and drug trafficking.

The attack occurred around 11:00 AM when assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on the victim as he was leaving a residence. Following the shooting, the suspects fled on a motorcycle and later in a gray sedan. The victim was transported to a hospital, where he remains in intensive care but is reported to be in stable condition and has provided information to investigators.

In response to the incident, the Secretaría de Seguridad Pública (SSP) and the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) implemented security checkpoints and searches. Several individuals have been apprehended, and authorities have seized a motorcycle and a vehicle believed to be connected to the crime. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact motives behind the attack.
